The Origin And Evolution Of Perfumes
The word comes from two Latin phrases, “per,” meaning “through,” and “fumus,” meaning “smoke,” and later, it was given the name “parfum” by the French. In the beginning perfumes were used in the form of incense, ancient people used to burn various types of woods and resins to produce ambrosial fragrances for their religious ceremonies. The Greeks made liquid perfumes and soon chemistry laid the foundation of modern perfumery, perfumes were now made from different synthetic chemicals and natural substances mixed with alcohol to make them last long. Natural components like animal extracts, extracts from flowers, leaves, roots and citrus fruits are used.
Massive raw materials are used to extract minimal quantity of perfume this is why they are so expensive. The more expensive the perfume is, the more concentrated its concoction is, this makes them last longer than usual.
